It's been two years since the Sonos One came out, the 'smart' speaker of the audio giant. Includes built-in microphones, with which Google Assistant and Amazon's Alexa can be used. At least, in the future.
Sonos One (Gen 2)
Now it's time for a hardware upgrade, a new version of the Sonos One. Do not expect a big announcement or breakthrough innovation. These are fairly small upgrades under the bonnet.
The Sonos One (Gen 2) has, for example, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), unlike the first version. The speaker uses your internet to stream music, but that addition is not focused on that.
The new generation uses Bluetooth only for setting up. For this you had to plug in an internet cable or connect to WiFi. Bluetooth is a lot faster and more accessible. Setting up your new Sonos One (Gen 2) is a lot easier.
It does not stop there. The new Sonos One also features a more powerful processor and more memory. A welcome addition and preparation for a future in which virtual assistants are used more than ever.
Officially for sale
The new Sonos One (Gen 2) is now officially for sale . The old version will gradually disappear with the last stocks. The functionality remains the same, and Sonos promises to provide the first version with software updates for a long time.
It is unfortunately not yet known how you can distinguish the two generations. Our friends at OneMoreThing have checked with Sonos, we will let you know if we have received an answer.
